It’s been a few years since VACACIONES broke up. They’re our beloved group from Murcia who represent the hyper-melodic Spanish pop movement that they led at the end of the 90s along with other groups like LOS FRESONES REBELDES, LA PEQUEÑA SUIZA, JUNIPER MOON, METEOSTAT and LA MONJA ENANA, among many others. Their legacy – a handful of marvelous, urgent and lively songs – has just become a recovered treasure, by the Japanese label Waterslide Records. The label already released a compilation with all of JUNIPER MOON’s singles and a ton of extra songs salvaged from their demos and concerts, in 2010. This is an intense act of recognition that shows the reach that Ruth and company’s songs had, and that means a profound recovery of material that they recorded during the period they were a part of Elefant Records – from 1999 to 2003.
This is a true anthology of 66 songs divided into two CDs and presented in digipack, the first of which contains their album “Sonreir” and their singles for Elefant, objects of desire for collectors. Among these objects of desire are: “Dani”, “Un Año de Vacaciones”, “Espero Una Respuesta”, and “No Me Digas Que Me Quieres”, as well as a version of “Imperfecta” for the Elefant compilation “Verano Del 99”, and that “Espero Una Respuesta” that could be found on the vinyl release. The second CD is made up entirely of previously unreleased material that had never before seen the light of day, and is full of diverse extras. It’s a juicy treasure that their fans will all go crazy over.
The first two demos they recorded in 1998 that introduce early versions of some of their most famous songs, like “Poppy Girl” are here too. The recording was done in the very same rehearsal space they used in 1999 as a previously unreleased song, “Mentiras” and a cover of THE BRINCOS’ “Flamenco”, as well as another rehearsal space from 2001 where they recorded “Premio De Consolación” and “Crash” – THE PRIMITIVES’ biggest hit. There are a total of 10 demos recorded in 1999, including the previously unreleased track, “14 Horas”, and covers of Augusto Algueró’s “Muy Cerca de Ti” and the already known “Ne Sois Pas Si Bete” by France Gall. Their last demo, from 2003, is represented also, with three previously unreleased songs: “Un Mundo Inventado”, “Terra A Viste”, and “Yendo a Ninguna Parte”. And to top off this sonic document, there are eight live songs from Madrid in 2000, as well as four songs taken from their 2001 performance in the Contempopránea festival, where the energy and strength of their performances is perfectly captured.
As you can see, this is a thorough and conscientious release, full of juicy gems and surprises that also represent an important international recognition of the band from Murcia’s development, and that can also be acquired in digital format. We’ve imported a few copies of this Japanese release for all of the fans and followers who want to get their hands on a physical copy; it will only be available through our website.
