The launch of the fanzine “La Línea Del Arco” (1989) is the starting point for the trajectory of one of the most well-known and influential independent Spanish labels on the national and international music scenes. In the beginning, building projects that have ultimately become the living history of music in this country, like the Noise Pop Tour in 1992, the first editions of the “Festival Internacional de Benicàssim” (FIB), the magazine “Spiral” and the radio program “Viaje A Los Sueños Polares” (when indie music was played on the top 40 station). From that moment, now with the perspective of more than 30 years of activity, we have been home to some of the most important national and international pop bands, like LA CASA AZUL, CAMERA OBSCURA, Soleá Morente, FAMILY, LE MANS, LOS FLECHAZOS, LOS PLANETAS, NOSOTRÄSH, Carlos Berlanga, VAINICA DOBLE, LA BIEN QUERIDA, TREMBLING BLUE STARS, SINGLE, THE SCHOOL, HELEN LOVE, ASTRUD, COOPER, BMX BANDITS, THE YEARNING, PAPA TOPO, Ana D, AXOLOTES MEXICANOS, JUNIPER MOON, TRONCO, A GIRL CALLED EDDY, THE PRIMITIVES, GIORGIO TUMA, Cristina Quesada, Lia Pamina, PUTOCHINOMARICÓN, rebe, NIZA, BUBBLE TEA AND CIGARETTES, ALPACA SPORTS, INTERROGACIÓN AMOR, FITNESS FOREVER, LIGHTNING IN A TWILIGHT HOUR, Maria Rodés and so many more. And this all means that today Elefant is a reference worldwide for indie pop.
Along the way there have been hundreds of releases for music lovers, legendary and historic albums, an enormous pile of 7” and 10” vinyls – the kind that all good collectors treasure – editorial projects like that series of new releases called “New Adventures In Pop” where bands like AIKO EL GRUPO, LISASINSON, NEVVER, BELLE GHOUL, MARINITA PRECARIA, PIPIOLAS, AMOR BUTANO and so many more took their first steps.
But more than the impressive lists, what makes Elefant Records a unique, inimitable label that serves as a model to follow for so many others is its work ethic, its untiring activity, its recognizable identity which is tended to and cared for every step of the way, and above all, the unquestionable place it holds in the hearts of lovers of pop and music in general.
