Gara, Nira, Amarca… are typically Canarian women names which entitle Pumuky's three song in this brand new single. Three love stories and a minute of silence, inspired in Canarian love legends which provide a fresh new take on the topic of love, which links thematically the collection. It is love contained in words and silences, in names of people and names never pronounced. For their first (red) vinyl Pumuky chose to contribute with something different, linking the love song concept with their island roots in a very special way. The songs were created in the middle of the recording of their next record and they wanted to avoid writing songs which were similar to those. They found a way out by researching traditional pre-hispanic love legends from the Canary Islands which survived thanks to oral tradition, thus taking a most unusual path which led them to these three songs. Surprisingly, the material was very emotional and not that far from Pumuky's own private universe, and as a result the texts integrate perfectly in the band's music. The three songs (“Gara”, “Nira” and “Amarca”) are inspired in the stories 'Gara y Jonay', 'La Pared de Roberto' and 'Amarca', straight from Noé and Jaír's village, Icod de los Vinos, in the island of Tenerife. Thry are passionate, dramatic stories, constantly dancing with death, with the sour smell of rootlessness, and maybe tinged with the collective feeling of the islanders, which take us back to the times of dignity and brave love... tales of a time when the Canary Islands were on the edge of the known world, a fascinating place for adventurers, Garden of Hesperides, Elysian Fields, Islands of the fortunate... Gara, Nira, Amarca… a record in which Pumuky shake off preconceptions about the band to become themselves even more. Maybe because they always were more interested in the content than in the form of music, always looking for unorthodox soundtracks with a common thread: their interest in building very personal lyrical and sonic universes, a bit like Deerhunter, Sufjan Stevens or Damien Jurado... who may not be that similar to Pumuky in style but they certainly are in spirit... The single ends with “1 minuto de silencio por nuestro amor” ("one minute of silence for our love"), a statement in the form of silence, necessary and underrated, a gift to think, maybe, about the person you love(d).
