Record Store Day special edition **Limited Edition in 12" Mini-LP format [Purple Colour Vinyl] **Includes a CD
Álex Diez has always been a fan of all things vinyl, and the latest proof of this is from just a few weeks ago, with his latest Mini-LP, “UHF”, which was released on 12” format and CD. The release proved that our beloved mod icon has not lost even a drop of inspiration and good taste, which the wonderful, lively songs like “Entre Girasoles” and “Ideal” make perfectly clear. The fans’ answer was, once again, immediate, selling out the 750 copies in that first print in just a few days. That’s why, here at Elefant Records, we are going to make a special edition of the album for Record Store Day: 500 new purple-vinyl copies to celebrate a day that all music fans should celebrate effusively, and which Elefant is collaborating on with this small contribution.
In the meantime, Álex continues making his way across the Spanish map, thanks to this new handful of marvelous songs, which he is alternating between his successful night-time shows and “La Gira Del Aperitivo”, which has brought him to new venues and new audiences during the daylight hours. Who can resist COOPER’s songs?
It was already announced with that marvelous single “Los Veranos Son Para Soñar”, and now it’s here. “UHF” is COOPER’s new mini-LP, to be released on a fantastic limited-edition 12” vinyl + CD. This release brings a more luminous and vital Álex Diez back to us, with lyrics that look with sunny melancholy on those subtle stories that make our day-to-day lives richer.
And to start things off, “Ideal” shows just how in prime form he is. The exciting lyrics about chance meetings are home to 12-string guitars swaying with echoes of LOS PLANETAS, or, what is basically the same thing, the magical dialogue between sixties-pop and power-pop. “Entre Girasoles”, as we mentioned before, was already released as an advance 7” single, and is a summery song with a marvelous melody somewhere between LOS ÁNGELES and LA BUENA VIDA. “Bengalas” closes the first side with a rockier accent at a melancholic medium tempo that is, at the same time, full of electricity.
“Hipsters” opens the B-side, and it’s a direct connection with brit-pop from the 90s, with songs by BLUR or SLEEPER, with that explosiveness that reminds us of ELASTICA. “Hipsters” goes back to the energy levels of his more energized songs, like “Ruido” and “Rabia”. “Brick Lane” is full of his passion for London, starting with the reference itself to Brick Land and those guitar riffs, up to the mysterious and disenchanted ambiance, full of sadness and rain. It’s a journey. And don’t even think that the album would close with a crepuscular song. The exact opposite, in fact. “Nosotros” is a prodigious cover of JAVIER SUN, but it has all the spirit of the best of COOPER: an incredible, unforgettable chorus, a serene look back, utopian.
This mini-LP is, without a doubt, irrefutable proof of what COOPER is today. Effervescent, exciting, radiant, luminous, and energetic. Unstoppable.
