Quintessentially English cult pop band THE WOULD-BE-GOODS will tour along with Elefant Records recording artists LES TRÈS BIEN ENSEMBLE on six double-billed dates (three in Spain, three in the UK): in Spain, the concerts will be a part of three Elefant parties to be held next February in Barcelona (feb 16th, Apolo), Valencia (17th, Loco Club) and Madrid (18th, El Sol).
Afterwards, in July, both bands will play the second leg of the tour with shows in London, Nottingham and Oxford.
For this tour there will also be a collaboration between Elefant Records and Fortuna Pop! (THE WOULD-BE-GOODS' current record label in Europe, as well as home to such great bands as THE LUCKSMITHS, THE AISLERS SET, AIRPORT GIRL, TENDER TRAP, SODASTREAM or COMET GAIN): both labels will release a joint compilation which will be given away for free with the tickets to any of the shows on this tour, featuring twelve bands per label. Twenty-four songs total, taken from the magnificent catalogues of these two indie labels that are firmly united by their pop spirit.
In the near future, both labels will keep on collaborating and organizing parties together, both in Spain and in England.

Often compared to THE SMITHS, the history of THE WOULD-BE-GOODS and the quintessentially English flavour of their recordings started back in 1987, when enigmatic singer and songwriter Jessica Griffin recorded a single under that monicker for cult label él Records, which would be followed in 1988 by a full album ("The camera loves me"), featuring THE MONOCHROME SET as the backing band.
After the release of this album, Jessica left the music world to start working in the City of London until 1993, when thanks to the cult status achieved by the band she accepted an offer from Japanese label Trattoria to record a new album. For the recording of "Mondo" she was backed again by THE MONOCHROME SET, and Bid -leader of the Set and currently known as SCARLET'S WELL- was the producer (as well as singing a duet with Jessica on the song "Casanova '92").

By the end of the 90's, Jessica started writing songs again. She was joined by Peter Momtchiloff (a member of the illustrious indie saga formed by TALULAH GOSH, HEAVENLY and MARINE RESEARCH, as well as having been a member of THE RAZORCUTS) on guitar and bass. They released a 4-track EP ("Emmanuelle Béart") on Washington DC record label Matinée Recordings, and a three-track 7‰ single ("Sugar mummy") on London's label Fortuna Pop! Records.

Early 2002 saw the release of the third album by THE WOULD-BE-GOODS ("Brief lives"), released jointly through Matinée, Fortuna Pop! and Japanese label P-Vine Records. By then, THE WOULD-BE-GOODS had already played their first shows in London: first it was only Jessica on guitar and Peter on bass and guitar, later on with the addition of Debbie Green on drums and backing vocals. Debbie is a star of London's garage scene from the 90's: she's been a member of THEE HEADCOATEES, THE X-MEN and BABY BIRKIN, and she has also played with Peter in THE FAMILY WAY, DUTRONC and currently in THE SPEED OF SOUND.

Finally, in the summer of 2002 the line-up of THE WOULD-BE-GOODS was complete with the addition of Lupe Núñez-Fernández on bass and backing vocals. This line-up played several shows in London and visited the American East Coast in the autumn of 2002. By late 2002 they started recording songs for a fourth album, which they completed in 2004. "The morning after" was released in august 2004 through Fortuna Pop! and Matinée: their recent songs adapt the familiar melancholic charm and wit of their music to a guitar pop sound which ranges from new folk to tango through garage rock.
Lupe has left the band to concentrate on her other band, PIPAS, and Andy Warren from THE MONOCHROME SET (also former ADAM AND THE ANTS), who had already played bass in the first two albums, has joined the line-up.
