“Alicia” is a restless sleep, beautiful, with a beyond perfect concept of pop, not too far from a perfect cross between THE BYRDS, TEENAGE FANCLUB and Josh Rouse. Though the most striking thing about this song may be that the last lines of the song perfectly sum up the feelings of grown-up revelations that run throughout the album: “Que el mundo nunca será / como cuando está dormida / todo es tan triste y extraño al despertar” (The world will never be / like it is when we’re asleep / everything is so sad and strange upon waking).

Here at Elefant Records we have no doubt that “Mi Universo” will be a key album in Alex Díez’s career. The album will mark a new highpoint in the indispensable musician’s career, which is already full of hits and memorable achievements. Recorded in Konk Studios, which were founded by Dave and Ray Davies (THE KINKS), and where people like Elvis Costello, THE STONE ROSES, THE BEE GEES and BLUR, among many others, have also recorded, it proved to be the perfect environment to capture all of the magic in these new songs.

And so, for such a special occasion, the corresponding tour is going to be totally different. “Internet Tour” will debut COOPER’s new songs.  Over the course of ten days, on ten different websites, the ten songs on the album will be debuted one by one, each with its own new video made just for this occasion. So, starting November 8^th, we can discover, each day on a different website, Alex Díez’s new songs, with their marvellous videos that transport us to each song’s universe, as well as show us some moments of the album recording process in the legendary British studios.

La web de Rockdelux es la segunda parada del tour digital en el que Alex Díez –comandante en jefe de Cooper– presenta “Mi universo”, su nuevo larga duración, que será publicado por Elefant el 21 de noviembre. En cada estación se apeará una canción nueva –“Alicia”, en este caso– con su correspondiente videoclip, también de estreno.

Serena y evocadora, “Alicia” es uno de esos medios tiempos en la onda de los mejores Teenage Fanclub que el veterano músico alicantino radicado en León acostumbra a bordar. La realización del clip es responsabilidad de su vecino Juan Marigorta, director tarraconense que también es músico y productor: toca en The Bright, a quienes produjo el álbum “Soundtrack For A Winter’s Tale”, publicado en marzo pasado.

No es la primera vez que Díez y Marigorta trabajan juntos. Otros clips de Cooper –“Rabia”, “Cerca del sol” y “Cierra los ojos”– llevan la firma del catalán, quien traslada buena parte de la estructura utilizada en el vídeo de “Soundtrack” –lo dirigió para The Bright– a la obra que nos ocupa. Dos planos narrativos en contraste –localización, color y tempo radicalmente opuestos, aunque la cámara se mueve con pulso semejante en ambos casos– para desentrañar las claves de una historia más inquietante de lo que pueda parecer a primera vista. Sin subrayados ni aspavientos. Dosificando la información y acudiendo al pequeño detalle con mucha inteligencia. Justo lo que pedía una partitura así.
