Alt Music Box [En]: "When You Need The Most" [Review]
ALPACA SPORTS – “WHEN YOU NEED ME THE MOST” ALBUM REVIEW
Hailing from Göteborg, Sweden, Alpaca Sports are a wonderfully cheery band who capture the beauty and simplicity of life through the form of indie pop. This relaxing six track mini album embodies just this. With a range of different vocals and instruments, the band have managed to create quite a distinctive sound. Although the songs sound pretty similar on the surface, they explore different themes.
The opener, ‘Just Like Them‘ starts with a preppy opening riff and is a fantastic beginning to this album. This, like most of the songs on this album, I can imagine being played in a heart-warming indie film, but for now sounds pretty good for some everyday listening. The Smiths-like guitar riffs are a particularly favourite aspect of mine, however the vocals seem quite the opposite of Morrissey. The harmonies and synth lines make their sound very unique.
Another track that stands out for me is ‘There’s No One Like You‘ which seems to look back at a past romance. Again, the harmonies which appear in the chorus are beautifully light hearted. Also, ‘I Love You‘ follows the same upbeat and reminiscent of something that appears in a fairy tale; this whole album just screams carefree, breezy, and positive.
