It’s a two piece formed by Marta (vocals, keyboards) and Horacio (songwriting and guitars). They shared a true devotion for teenage, sunny pop music, from LULU, BELMONTS or SHIRELLES to BLONDIE or even ABBA, as well as Spanish classics such as ALASKA Y LOS PEGAMOIDES, LOS ROMEOS or LOS FRESONES REBELDES. All of them are perfect craftsmen, excelling at writing three-minute-long wonders, full of unforgettable and catchy choruses.

Marta and Horacio started writing songs together in early 2000, under the influence of the aforementioned and many more. And here are the results: in this debut CD-Single TECNICOLOR really manage to sound as cool as we all expected, showing a genuine talent to place the most perfect melody in the rightest moment.

The CD-Single was recorded in January 2001 in Refugio Antiaereo Studios (Granada, Spain). TECNICOLOR were helped by Miguel (bass) and Erik (drums), two members of LOS PLANETAS, owners of the studio and one of the most important alternative bands in Spain.

“Tú (eres la solución)” (“You are the answer”), the opening number, leaves clear which are the ingredients in this refreshing cocktail: a catchy melody, an unbeatable rhythm, guitars, backing vocals and endearing lead vocals by Marta; lyrics about love in a very teenage way (the CD-Single title is “Turbulences in Neverland”). Ok, all these elements are old as music itself, and can be found in most songs. But it’s not that easy to find the perfect ballance among them and come out with a perfect, instant pop tune. And that’s what TECNICOLOR manage. How many pop songs as complete as this you’ve listened to this year?

And the rest of the songs are equally exciting: “De otro color” (“Another colour”) boasts a truly delightful chorus, which places TECNICOLOR at the same level as the list of bands mentioned above. “Yo sé qué es” (“I know what it is”) is their most popular song so far, as it was a hit as a demo in some radio shows in Spain. We like it so much we will also include it in our forthcoming “Spanish Course” compilation.

“Amor bajo cero” (“Love below zero degrees”) and “Parecido a una ilusión” (“Close to an illusion”) complete the record and confirm TECNICOLOR is a very cool surprise for all Spanish pop fans, expert makers of hits that will impress anyone willing to get moved by something as apparently simple as a pop song.
