La Bien Querida Finds Immortal Love In 'Hoy'

Spain's new pop chanteuse La Bien Querida — the stage name of Ana Fernandez-Villarde — will drop her eagerly anticipated sophomore album next month. Fiesta is the follow up to her critically acclaimed debut Romancero. Fernandez-Villarde has the potential to triumph with any mainstream audience, but prefers to enjoy the freedom of an independent label.

The single "Hoy" is another knockout in La Bien Querida's short but remarkable career. The song attempts to resolve the notions of death as a all-consuming event; a woman mourns the death of her lover, when suddenly she sees him as a ghost. What's there to do? She sings, "Today, seeing you again, I've decided to love you again."
It's a dark song on the surface, and not the most obvious way to start a fiesta, but Fernandez-Villarde somehow finds a way to make death romantic. And the video directed by Luis Cervero makes the story of a woman and her ghostly encounters into an audiovisual feast.

A primera vista es una canción oscura, y no una buena música para tocar en una fiesta. Pero Fernandez-Villarde siempre encuentra una manera de hacer que la muerte sea romántica. Y el video, dirigido por Luis Cervero, hace que la historia de una mujer y sus encuentros fantasmales sea un festín audiovisual.
