Biography

FUGU is not only that dangerously poisonous Japanese fish that nearly killed Homer Simpson, but also the name chosen by Pop Genius Mehdi Zannad (Nancy, France) to sign his wonderful pop odysseys, halfway between LEFT BANKE and GORKY’S ZIGOTIC MINCI, between DIVINE COMEDY and Syd Barrett, between the classic and the modern, between elegance and madness.

He´s only published a couple of singles so far: one on Liverpool´s Sugarfrost and a split with STEREOLAB on Groovy Moogy, the latter being chosen by reputable French magazine Les Inrockuptibles as one of the 50 best singles of 1997. He´s about to release his first album on French label Ici D´Ailleurs, which will surely be one of the albums of the year.

Here are two exclusive FUGU songs -plus a mysterious interlude- for our Elefant Single Club, as exciting and beautifully flavoured as everything´s he´s come out so far.

French import copies of this single will be accompanied by "Tout Seul" fanzine, written by journalist Matthieu Rémy, with a full-detailed account on the recording of these little pop masterpieces.

Just listen to the first notes of "F31" or " F1" and you´ll be transported to the beautiful English countryside, -well, maybe you´re already there if you´re lucky enough!- picnicking with Kevin Ayers and Alice in Wonderland´s Mad Hatter. But please note the sugarcubes may not be what you expect!!!
