It took ten seconds for me to fall in love with ‘When You Need Me The Most’, the new mini LP from Alpaca Sports, and I guarantee as soon as you hear the uplifting percussion and melodies on ‘Just Like Them’ you will feel the same as I. When the charming vocals enter the song there really will be no going back, you will feel your life becoming enriched, your heart will feel warmer and you will be embracing the wonderful pop music this band create.
‘Need Me The Most’ follows and is a sweet love song full of youthful innocence that will melt the hearts of many, “I want to tell you how I feel before the summer fades away”. ‘There’s No One Like You’ has endless summer day stamped all over it, this is one of those magical pop songs that allows the listener the opportunity to drift away within their own hopes and dreams. ‘I Love You’ is another wonderful example of what pop music should be; infectious melodies and a memorable chorus all arranged in a way that makes this song one you will not forget in a hurry. ‘Where’d You Go’ contains lyrics that allow the listener to join the band in moments of reflection for days gone by “The tree house that we built when we were five, oh it’s all gone now and I wonder where’d you go”. If that lyric doesn’t make you think back with fond memories of your childhood days and friends you have lost along the way then you really must have a heart of stone.
Just when you think things could not get any better this mini LP is brought to a conclusion by the fantastic ‘When I Hold You’, seriously this song will take your breath away and make you applaud every sound you hear. This is such a remarkable song where every gentle sound will stir some emotions within. As with so many of the lyrics throughout the six songs, these are lyrics that are sung from the heart “I walk along with my head in the clouds, now I know where I belong, say goodbye to those tears I once cried, my life began when I met you”. If you love everything that is great about pop music then ‘When You Need Me The Most’ by Alpaca Sports is a record that you need in your life. Steve Tay
