On early 1999 we released a white vinyl single with four precious instrumental tracks, signed by a new Spanish band called LA PEQUEÑA SUIZA. Since then they have played live quite a lot, including a support act of MARINE RESEARCH in Madrid, and an appearance at Spanish TV2.
The title of that record (“La Pequeña Suiza sings in Spanish”) was only a joke, but at the same time it showed the band’s intentions of composing songs with vocals in the future. So some months later this “Simpático EP” was out.
The materials they use to build up their songs are basically the same: strumming guitars, fast and timidly dancey rhythms. They pay special attention to small details and arrangements. Very simple songs, in which everything is in its place. And now we have the extra topping of Nacho and Laura’s vocals, always singing together. Their voices are very different, but they suit each other perfectly.
Music and lyrics ballance between the contagious happiness of “Vente conmigo” or “Pontevedra” and slightly sadder moments like “Siempre es primavera” and “El fin del verano”, though even in these cases there’s always some optimism at the end. LA PEQUEÑA SUIZA always manage to leave you with a smile in your face. Their songs transmit sheer happiness.
Vinyl lovers will surely appreciate the limited, coloured vinyl ten inch version of this CD-Single, as it includes an extra track: “Viviendo en los noventa”, one of the best songs from this Madrid quintet. A song that had already appeared in our “Verano del 99” compilation.
