Shindig! Happening! [En]: Review about "Heart Skips A Beat" Single 7"

Heart Skips A Beat EP

Elefant 7” EP

The vinyl is transparent, but this coed Brazilian duo are certainly a colourful lot and their debut four-song EP is a giddy toychest of fun, from Luna May’s Betty Boop vocals to the cartoonish simplicity of their childlike melodies. The title track oozes syrupy goodness with chirping electronics and a stick-in-the-head melody that will appeal to fans of Japanese toytown pop and it segues perfectly into ‘Love Holds My Hands’, which sounds like it was performed on a toy piano from a local rummage sale. Nat De Abreu is pictured holding a homemade guitar assembled from a metal lunchbox… May’s concoction welds a 12” ruler-sized neck onto a tin box of Danish butter cookies. Now I’m not suggesting they’re actually playing these things, but it puts ideas in the head and hints at the whimsy that floats across these four airy confections. Wonderful stuff – let’s have a full-length real soon. Jeff Penczak
