Since their formation in 1997, LA MONJA ENANA, never cease to surprise us with the most bizarre and amazing talent that any Spanish indie group could possibly possess. Their debut single was nothing more and nothing less than “Single of the Week” in the prestigious English magazine, Melody Maker, and the deceased and adored John Peel sang their praises each time he played one of LA MONJA ENANA’s songs on the air. Meanwhile, Americans learned Spanish in schools and universities listening to tunes of LA MONJA ENANA. Throughout this period, the group journeyed off to tour Russia. Performances in Paris and Stockholm, collaborations with numerous bands; television appearances and the presence in a multitude of diverse events and unique festivals ... craziness to the max! All of this, with just two singles out and some songs distributed on various compilations. Let’s not forget that their debut album, “Humo y Espejos” just came out a few weeks ago.
Now they are heading off to Mexico to tour with L-KAN! There’s no doubt that they are going to go out with a big bang over there, where there dedicated fans anxiously await.
In 2005, the compilation, “Un Secreto Terrible," was put out in Mexico by the independent label, Molécula Records, an album containing tracks from their two singles, rarities, songs which previously appeared on other comps, demos and even includes songs recorded for the tour-cd-project, "¡Qué mutada!" – another fun adventure led by our heroes, along with L-KAN and EL AVIADOR DRO. In their first concerts in Mexico, LA MONJA ENANA, presented songs off their new album, "Humo y Espejos," and also revamped songs from their first singles. Elefant has always had an important presence in the Mexican market and in 2002, the label, Suave, published the CD compilation, "Elefant 2002," a selected mix of the best songs from our catalogue and served as the perfect introduction to the galaxy of Elefant Records. Elefant’s numerous fans in Mexico will finally have an opportunity to gather and enjoy one of their favourite groups.
