In 1969, Nick Garrie recorded ‘The Nightmare of JB Stanislas’, an album of psychedelic folk beauty, which spent years in the dark before finally being released in 2005 to critical acclaim.
On discovery of this talent BMX Bandit Duglas T Stewart and Teenage Fanclub's Norman Blake produced some new tracks for Garrie. A follow up album, ‘49 Arlington Gardens’, is due in February, and the two tracks on this 7 inch and download are the first offerings from it.
‘Twilight’ has a rose-tinted 60's vibe to it, with smooth chilled-out guitars and some soft jazz style piano. An extra backing vocal adds extra depth to a beautiful track.
The B side, ‘In Every Nook and Cranny’, has an air of country style 1970's style Mojave 3, or even a folkish Pink Floyd. It is lush, acoustic and has a vocal that drips like honey.
A lost singer/songwriter very much worth checking out.
