PRIBATA IDAHO started back in Madrid, in 1988. They released their first album in Munster Records: a Lp only album called “Cactus Juice”, featuring eight originals plus two covers of such fave bands as THE FLAMIN’ GROOVIES and BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD.
In the meantime between “Cactus Juice” and “Sueroine” they recorded four songs which were released late 1993 on a very special format, a ten incher on transparent vinyl, under the name “Pribata Idaho And Friends”. For the occasion they work along with Peter Holsapple (ex-dB’s, ex-R.E.M.) and with Scott McCaughey and Kurt Bloch from Seattle’s YOUNG FRESH FELLOWS, and they record two more favorites: “Starry Eyes” by THE RECORDS and “Don’t Wait Up For Me” by THE PAUL COLLINS BEAT; as well as two originals: “Don’t Put The Blame On Me”, their most famous song, which had a repercussion that not even them could imagine, and “Headless Man”.
Two years from the first LP comes out “Sueroine”, an album much more mature and risky than “Cactus Juice”. In this album, the line-up changes to the three-piece line up mentioned above. “Sueroine” was produced by local legend Carlos Torero, helped by Ricardo del Castillo and the band themselves, and with their friends Murky and Guiller Momonje from PATRULLERO MANCUSO as guest musicians. The outcome is a brilliant album, full of glossy pop melodies and powerful guitars, always playing 12 string Rickenbackers, in which the band combined perfectly their classic influences (BYRDS, BEATLES, LOVE, Dylan, Donovan, FLAMIN’ GROOVIES, etc.) with the present day ones (RAIN PARADE, MAZZY STAR, GIGOLO AUNTS, TEENAGE FANCLUB, THIN WHITE ROPE, VELVET CRUSH, etc.), creating their own and unmistakable style.
After contributing to lots of compilations and play all over Spain, PRIBATA IDAHO sealed their contract with Elefant Records releasing the 7” single “Flowers And Bad Seeds”, two splendid songs as an advance fo their third LP: “Hope”. A splendid collection of timeless pop songs, with some lunatic visionaries like Brian Wilson or Arthur Lee. They show their long-year experience and at the same time, they boast the freshness and the innocence of a brand new outfit.
1998 is invested in writing new songs, playing on Benicassim 1998 and recording a cover version of “Fourth of July” for Elefant’s GALAXIE 500’s tribute.
In Feb 2000 “Spain is pain”, their fourth album, is released. A new collection of timeless, perfect pop songs as well built up as the band has gotten us used to expecting from them. They make a live appearance at Spanish TV and a tour to promote the album.
The band announces their split on January 2001, finishing a long decade of music.
