Biography

The second delivery of 1997’s Elefant Records’ Singles Club has, once again, overflowing international quality. This single is the best prove of it: four exclusive, previously unreleased songs coming from the Antipodes by GODSTAR, the band of Nic Dalton (bass player in the LEMONHEADS best line-up ever). Due to his frantic activity with the label/store/distribution Half A Cow and his other side-project SNEEZE (look for their single on Elefant Records as well), Nic has finally decided to close a historic page in Australian music and leave the GODSTAR project aside for the moment.

We don’t resign ourselves to leave this fantastic band unknown in Europe, and within a few months we will release "Stardust Memories", a luxurious double-CD reviewing the whole story of the band which made Evan Dando himself think over his way of approaching songwriting. But before that, they have given us four fresh, slackery songs, with that amateur charm which makes us think of the first records by THE PASTELS. Much appropriately, they have adapted the band’s name to their current stand-by situation (though there seems to be the chance to see them live in Europe by the beginning of 1998), now calling themselves THE GODSTAR REMINDER for this record, an excellent souvenir of immediate, effusive garnet coloured vinyl.

But we must not let their seeming clumsiness and simplicity to mislead us. These four songs of punk-pop next door have an astounding pedigree: recorded at the world famous studios Fort Apache, and with the help of Tom Morgan (SMUDGE, LEMONHEADS...) or David Ryan (LEMONHEADS) among others. Three ex-LEMONHEADS together! Check it for yourself!
