Biography

Nick Currie is a tender pervert genius of pop in its most intelligent and elegant way. He has a very long discography, and has released albums in some of the coolest labels worldwide, from Creation to Le Grand Magistery. In 1999 we released the Spanish version of “Stars Forever” , featuring a different sleeve from the rest of the editions. It’s a truly special album: in order to save Le Grand Magistery- his label in the States- from bankrupcy MOMUS announced on his website his forthcoming album would be an album of “pop portraits”; everyone that wanted to be recreated “in song” by MOMUS would just need to send a small amount of money plus some data in order to be included in the musical portrait. In two weeks thirty people had already paid and offered to “pose” for Nick. The roster included New York city artist Jeff Koons (a great influence for MOMUS himself), Minty Fresh label, Cornelius -who asked MOMUS for a song dedicated to his cats-, plus a long list of fans -mostly Japanese- who were allowed to the enormous honour of turning into “stars forever”, through MOMUS’ paintbrush. The result is simply amazing: a double CD full of pop portraits, created with MOMUS’ very own sense of humour.
