Biography
This six-song 7" -yes, six songs in a seven inch!!!- is an excellent document to discover a fantastic Australian band that created some small, endearing pop miniatures on the second half of the eighties. Despite their means of recording were rather slender -a 4-track recorder- and their songs were released on small Aussie indie labels, the singles released by LOVE POSITIONS -aka Nic Dalton and Robyn St Claire (both vocals and guitars)- must have caused a commotion on the independent scene of their country of that time, according to the frequency their songs were covered by other artists such as RATCAT, which turned this single´s "Don´t Slow Down" into "Don´t Go Now"; not to mention the successful "Into Your Arms", which made a top ten single played by the LEMONHEADS, Evan Dando´s historical band in which Nic played bass during their most memorable, golden moments ("It´s A Shame About Ray", "Come On Feel the Lemonheads"). The original, pristine version of this unforgettable song can also be found in this single.
Some years ago, Nic Dalton´s very own label Half A Cow released a compilation with all LOVE POSITIONS singles released between 1985 and 1989, from which we´re picked up our favourites, so that you can enjoy their freshness, and Robyn´s delicious vocals.
Every song has its own story: for example, "Throwaway" was recorded as quickly as possible, and according to the Half A Cow album liner notes, was "literally saved from the bin"; "Whereabouts" means to be a tribute to their English contemporaries SHOP ASSISTANTS; and "Glad It´s All Over" is something very special: a cover version of CAPTAIN SENSIBLE, that weirdo, DAMNED dissenter.
Hypervitamined pop songs, short but full of talent and written with a heart. Any LEMONHEADS fan, or anyone interested in Australian pop history should pay special attention to this single.
