Biography

One of the best pleasures of creating a platform as Elefant Records’ Singles Club is the pride to be able to offer all its members exclusive pieces of vinyl by bands which records made us live unforgettable moments. No doubt this is the case of JACK, a band from the excellent London label Too Pure Records (they discovered STEREOLAB, MOUSE ON MARS or PJ Harvey), makers of a cultivated, bohemian pop, smokers and addicted to red wine evenings, close to the arty feeling of some TINDERSTICKS.

Fascinated by the european post-World War I culture, JACK give us in their Spanish single (credits and lyrics in Spanish after the band’s request, as on our parents’ singles) two wonderful, evocative songs, as good as their best melodies ever.

"Fall In Love With Me Again" takes advantage of a theatrical, excessive interpretation ideal to go with a mediterranean, Buñuel-esque ambients, with an air of romantic tragedy, of Spanish Civil War and grey-coloured pictures, closer sometimes to Dominique A or to what was done in Spain with the first album by LA BUSQUEDA.

"Cinematic", on the other hand, recreates closer atmospheres, but equally rainy and literary. A precious melody which could have been played by THE GO-BETWEENS or Lloyd Cole in his best moments gives way to a list of quotes and reference characters: Cocteau, Picasso (whose picture together comes in the label of the vinyl), "A Bout De Souffle", Warhol, Bukowski, Woody Allen, Fellini..., are here with a mixture of respect, admiration, irony and tipically British distance.

This is a wonderful single, a new reason to feel proud of the work of Elefant Records’ Singles Club. And it’s dedicated to Picasso, Cocteau, and her.
