Biography

ISAN is an electronic project formed by two young English guys, Robin Saville and Antony Ryan. Their music is extremely minimalistic, far away from the oppresive and heavy atmospheres of most of their techno counterparts. Another feature to mention is the "lo-fi" nature of their work, derived from the usage of old analogue synthesizers and four-track recorders. All this contributes to enhance their music with an irresistible naïveness. We could place their music very close to the one made by those masters at creating magic electronic anthems, the utterly delicious PLONE.

As a curious fact, Robin and Antony live in different towns, so each of them compose their parts alone, then send them to the other by mail. This complicated work method hasn’t meant any problem for the development of their career, as in a brief period of time they’ve managed to release a handful of wonderful singles in such exquisite companies as Wurlitzer Jukebox, plus a brilliant debut album ("Beautronics") and a session for John Peel’s prestigious show.

As it’s usual in our exclusive single club, both numbers in this seven inch were recorded specially for the occasion. "Dampen" and "Wistful Song For A Soaring Superstar Gull" present ISAN as a sort of kindergarten AUTECHRE, joyful and mysterious at the same time, putting into practice the idea that avant-garde is, or should be, a child’s toy. With their brilliant melodies and their fragile though truly effective rhythms, ISAN invite us to share their playroom with them, and manage to get us involved in their delightful games with toy electronics.
