1996
CECILIA ANN is a five piece based in Granada (Spain). By the beginning of 1996 the band records its first demo with the aim to find an outside opinion. This first demo had four songs in English, although they had already done some stuff in Spanish, which were the ones which made Elefant Records look at them: the freshness and personality of the band, along with the spontaneity of every beginner, made them too special and fascinating as to not sign them immediately. With that demo they got to the first place at the contest of the Planta Baja venue and the Council of Granada, and later on they got to the second place in the finals of the Rock de Lux’s magazine contest, besides of having well-known fans among the specialized press.
1997-1998
After having supported LOS FLECHAZOS, THE POSIES and BMX BANDITS, taking their powerful live act all over Spain, in February 1997 they got into the studio to record the songs for their debut single, including their first hit “Si no lo ves”. They played Benicassim in 1997.
After a new single for our club, they release their first album, produced by Ken Stringfellow (of POSIES/CHARIOT fame), full of tiny pop artefacts. It’s pretty difficult to choose one song from the whole: all of them could have been singles, but only “Azul” and “Gris” achieved that honour. A video for the latter was filmed and included in a cdrom track of the cdsingle.
When “Un Segundo”, CECILIA ANN’s first album, is finally released, the band starts an endless tour playing all over the country. They spend almost every weekend on the road playing in clubs and some festivals, like the 98 editions of Benicassim, Espárrago Rock and Bam.
1999
In 1999 there are some crucial line-up change: Juanma and Juan Luis quit and are substituted by Pablo (Estrella’s brother) and Sergio: this new rhythm section will provide CECILIA ANN with a much more solid live act; this can be checked by the audience of some NADA SURF gigs in Spain in April, where they are supported by our heroes.
2000
In April 2000 their second album is released in Spain. It’s called “Suenacuento”, and it was preceded by a CD-Single with “Romperosa” as the title track. In this new album CECILIA ANN show a remarkable breakthrough, not only for the addition of horn, string, banjo and mandolin arrangements, plus slight electronic effects, but specially because of the maturity of the band’s new compositions.
CECILIA ANN play Benicassim 2000, and after that they start a long Spanish tour to promote the album. In October there’s a new CD-Single out, with a song from “Suenacuento” (“De todo un poco”) plus two extra tracks: a new song called “No se lo digas a nadie” plus a cover version of sixties classic “Funny how love can be”. This song was covered in several occasions (by bands like HARPERS’ BIZARRE) and CECILIA ANN use the Spanish translation popularized by Silvana Velasco in the sixties (“Lo que me pasa a mí”).
There are videos made of both singles, directed by Alejandro García, Arturo’s brother. Alejandro has also designed all the artwork for album and singles.
2001
On early 2001, one of the band founders (keyboard player Francis) leaves the band, being substituted by Julián. Their new drummer Dani also comes in.
On March 2001 German label Firestation Tower Records releases an international pop compilation called “I tried a thousand times, a thousand times to change your mind”, in which we can find “Solemío”, one of the songs in “Sueancuento”. Other bands in the comp: TOMPAULIN, SALTEENS, AVOCADO CLUB, NOVILLERO...
In the summer of 2001 there’s a new single out of “Suenacuento”: “La mujer pez”, featuring a new sleeve and video designed by Alejandro García. To promote this release CECILIA ANN play in many Spanish summer festivals, such as ContemPOPranea, Isla de Encanta, Socarrat, Asituna Rock, Colmenar, Páramo Rock and Agostorock.
In November 2001 they play in a pop festival in Madrid, with EELS and JAMES in the bill.
2002
The band is currently writing songs for their third album. Meanwhile they play a tour organized by Spanish Collective Society SGAE. They also appear playing their song “Acuérdate de mi” in “Looking for Chencho”, a short film directed by Kepa Sojo.
2003-2004
In 2003, CECILIA ANN release their new stuff on a new label: Intromusica releases the single "Mi revolución" and the long awaited third album, "Si yo te contara". In 2004, Intromusica releases the next single, "Al fondo de la pantalla".
