Only three 7” vinyl singles in a year have been enough to set Doble Pletina firmly on the scene as one of the most promising new bands, and their new album as one of the most awaited. At last, on the 3rd of July "De lo concreto a lo general" will see the light of the day - a record with 13 new songs full of that pop sound which characterizes this fivesome from Barcelona. In spite of their recent success, Doble Pletina have chosen to feature entirely new songs on this new album, instead of any of the songs which made them popular. This is the way to move forward for a band hungry for new song and experiences. There is also a subtle evolution in their sound, which still uses the same basic elements and lyrics about daily life stories but has refined even more, as a result of their work and experience in the last few years. Their previous songs were arranged with their live shows in sight, but this time, with the aid of producer Cristian Pallejà ( who already produced their EP “Contra los amores perdidos”, Jabalina 2012), they have opened up their sound to many more resources. Which include the collaboration of musical soulmates such as Marina Gómez (Klaus&Kinski) who lends her voice on “Rendez-vous”; Cristina de Sola, who plays the violin on “Esta última vez no ha valido” and “¿Puede callarse todo el mundo”, and Cristian Pallejà himself, who played the trumpet. The record contains excellent "instant pop", a formula in which songs can last as little as two minutes, developing their essence in an urgent, ephemeral way. And they mix them wisely with several sources of pop music: from Phil Spector to Stephin Merritt, from Lee Hazlewood to Billy Bragg, elements of Spanish Cuplé music, Donosti Sound and Traditional Spanish songs. In short, a brilliant combination of disparate ingredients to build songs which skip the conventional concept of "hit". At 31 minutes, "De lo concreto a lo general" has the virtue of being a swift, pleasant listen. It opens quietly with "Esta última vez no ha valido", a reassuring song (“then, everything will be all right”). Shortly after, the beat goes up and Marc and Laura’s voices along with the brilliant arrangements of "Hacer algo" invite us to dance. And then we bump into the record’s single, "Terco". Sung by Laura and Francina, this is a song with a sweet catchiness. "¿Puede callarse todo el mundo?" follows, an ode to loneliness, a feeling which we sometimes need in the hardest moments. By "Te guste o no" we are completely in love with this record, which reaches its half with the vibrant, upbeat "Error de cálculo". "Teoría y práctica" is followed by one of the most beautiful segments, a musical blind date called "Rendez-vous", where Marina Gómez from Klaus&Kinski infatuates us with her voice. The country beats and infeccious guitar of "Tierras sin reclamar" sets the scene for the more bucolic "Parque jurásico". The last section starts with "Dimes y diretes", with one of the best lyrics of the record, very much in their observational style, telling us stories from daily life which you wouldn’t notice otherwise. "Igual o mayor que" follows, telling us “there’s a direct connection / between what happens to our heart and what’s wrong with the nation”. "Ya es tarde" is the best possible ending, leaving us wanting to press play again (or put the needle back to the beginning, in the grey vinyl version). "De lo concreto a lo general" was recorded, mixed and produced by Cristian Pallejà at Taxman (Barcelona) and mastered by Arturo Vaquero and José Santiago at Abrigueiro estudios (Friol, Lugo) in March 2013.The artwork was designed by toormix. All the songs on "De lo concreto a lo general" were written by Doble Pletina: Laura Antolín (vocals, bass), Cati Bestard (drums), Jaume Cladera (keyboards), Marc Ribera (vocal, guitar, saw) y Francina Ribes (ukulele, vocals, synthesizer).
