It's the second release in the new singles collection DEDICATESSEN and Doble Pletina's third release. This fivesome from Barcelona was founded in 2010 by Laura Antolín (vocals and bass) and Marc Ribera (vocals, guitar and saw), recently joined by Cati Bestard (drums), Francina Ribes (ukelele and keyboards) and Jaume Cladera (keyboards). They were unanimously chosen as the best new Spanish band of 2011 by magazines Rock de Lux (third best single of the year) and El País de las Tentaciones (fifth best song) and radio show Disco Grande -Radio 3- (best single of the year), thanks to the hit “Música para cerrar las discotecas”, included in their singl released by the label Discos Garibaldi. Their well-deserved fame is based in songs - almost miniatures, sometimes - which hide terribly infectious melodies that end up becoming 'big' hits. This is the kind of pop paradox (in small letters) that we like. And popular music it is indeed, with influences from Phil Spector to Stephin Merritt, not to forget Spanish traditional genre Cuplé, and Spanish traditional songs, whose influence is present in this single which Doble Pletina dedicate to lost love (“los amores perdidos”). “Doble Pletina contra los amores perdidos” is in fact a proper good old EP (Extended Play) of four songs at 45 R.P.M., two songs per side. Four songs which confirm this band's skill to write brilliant songs out of daily life observation, to write unique tunes based on common people. Costumbrism and simple melodies sprinkled with a bit of irony to become instant hits. Side A opens with “Es innegable”, a song with a relentless beat, the only one to be sung by Marc and more electronic than usual for Doble Pletina, in which they extrapolate nature's miracles to the matters of the heart. Why not? The most unusual usually becomes real... “Revival” follows, sung by Laura, a song about the absurdity of second chances in love, which musically is built by a big wall of keyboards and synthesizers on which Cati's drums seem to rebound again and again. “Me detestas”, opens side B. This is a song which appeared originally on their first demo (“Para qué negarlo, si se puede demostrar”), re-recorded with the new lineup and new arrangements, in which they insist on the contradictions of the heart. EP closer “Interior noche” states in little more than a minute that encounters with long-lost lovers can be uncomfortable indeed.
