It’s been a long wait since their 2008 debut, but after record label wrangles Attic Lights have returned with a new album and are looking forward to a hometown show in Glasgow this weekend.

Purveyors of summery power pop, Super De Luxe still has a surfeit of bright and shimmering melodies – though also takes some unexpected turns along the way, marking a subtle evolution in the group’s sound.

Members Kevin Sherry and Jim Lang came into the STV studio to perform album opener Say You Love Me for us – check out their acoustic rendition here – and they also revealed their delight at Super De Luxe coming out earlier this month.

Kevin said of the album release: “It’s great, it’s just such a relief after having it sitting there for ages.

“It’s been there for so long that we have the third album almost finished.”

Of the progression from their debut, he continued: “I think some of the themes are a bit weightier on it, because a few of us were going through some pretty intense personal stuff.”

Francis MacDonald, of legendary Glasgow indie group Teenage Fanclub, has been closely involved with Attic Lights – managing the band and helping produce Super De Luxe. How does the city manage to produce acts plying their trade in summery power pop?

“I don’t know,” admitted Kevin. “I always think it’s because you emulate the bands you admire – or you just want to escape from the relentless, grey, windy, rainy days!”

Before going abroad to play festivals including Benicassim and Lemon Pop in Spain, the band are playing a special hometown show on Sunday May 26 – deciding upon Nice ‘N’ Sleazy after having watched the likes of Mogwai and Jens Lekman at the famous Glasgow venue.
