GLASGOW guitar pop outfit Attic Lights have recorded a bizarre new video in homage to Roy Orbison.
The stylish black and white film, directed by Chris Croft, marks the release of their new single Orbison from their latest LP Super Deluxe.
Lead singer Kev Sherry said: “The idea was to fill the video with loads of Roy Orbison and pop culture references.
“One of the things that Colin McArdle and I bonded over at the start of Attic Lights was our love of Orbison. I’m a massive fan of his later work from the 1980s like I drove All Night and You Got It, which a lot of folk often dismiss.
“Springtseen said he used to think the world was ending at the end of Orbison’s song It’s Over. So with this, we wanted to write something equally as unashamedly big and passionate without trying to be ironic about it.”
The Orbison video contains nods to David Lynch film Blue Velvet, famed for its use of The Big O’s hit In Dreams. Kev plays the song at the start of the video to Orbison and also had to brush up on his acting skills for the film, shot between Manchester and Glasgow’s SWG3 warehouse.
He said: “It’s the scene from Blue Velvet when Dean Stockwell sings the song and Denis Hopper’s standing staring at him. I had to bust out my acting chops for that one.”
The band will launch the single on Sunday at Broadcast in Glasgow, promising more than a few surprises for fans with performance artists, film crew and a hidden gypsy band.
Later this summer they’ll team up with Spanish act La Casa Azul, described as “The Spanish Daft Punk” for a joint single.
Kev said: “We’re a four-piece now, which frees us up a bit for moe gigs. So hopefully we’ll be touring a bit more this year.”
