DEDICATESSEN Vol. 11
Limited Edition 500 copies in red coloured 7" vinyl, including a download coupon of this album in digital format (MP3 - 320 kbps).
After Jesús Sáez's debut both in our Jabalina Love Songs and on his first LP “Limelight”, which introduced us to this musician's voice, writing skills and musical versatility, he is back, alongside Wild Honey, to wrap up this collection of dedicated singles, DEDICATESSEN, with brand new themes. “Llum y La Revuelta Emocional” encapsules a portrait of society through feelings, with a critical spirit and the idea that after ideologies have been devoid of any meaning by the media, the only way for social and rights movements is the heart - emotions are the only thing which can help mankind understand where to move to, why do it, and understand itself. “Llum y La Revuelta Emocional” is made up of three new, unreleased songs, as usual. Side A features “The Year That I Grew Old”, the most cynical song of the record, and the most punchy too: it moves from a poppy beginning to an explosion of noisy and furious chaos, as it narrates the birth of adolescence, the beginning of a maturity that turns out to be a hoax, a big lie. This is also his first recording with his live band (Pau Aracil, Pablo González and Toni Blanes, off Arthur Caravan) plus a special collaboration by Carolina Otero (Lülla, The Someone Else's) on vocal duties. Again, a fresh song on which Sáez abandons his crooner style for a more noise-pop feel, à la Beck. On the B side of this limited edition 7" red vinyl he is back to his more usual surroundings. “The Fault That I Feel” describes a father's guilt feelings as he watches his son, and describes him as the engine to move the revolt that each of us should embark on to make the world a better place for the ones to come after us. It is like a nocturne 'sonata', a lullaby almost, among echoes of Tom Waits and Belle & Sebastian. The single ends with “Sara Dice”, an involuntary farewell to the genius of Lou Reed, on which frustration is a key element again, coming from unfinished love, and unaccomplished expectations. A fragile, plaintive waltz, full of sad lyricism which reminds us that society should exist to make us happy, no matter how utopian this might sound. This single makes a perfect companion piece to “Limelight”. The vitality and light of his LP turn into melancholy and disappointment here, feelings that give an extra depth to these three songs which you will find yourself coming back to again and again, to make all of our broken hearts start the emotional revolt we so desperately need. Jesús Sáez has already shown his weapons. The three songs on “Llum y La Revuelta Emocional” were written by Jesús Sáez. All the instruments were played by him except for the violins and violas on “Sara dice”, recorded by Javier Torres. On "The Year That I Grew Old" the lineup was: Pau Aracil: backing vocals, bass and feedback; Pablo González: backing vocals, keyboards and percussion; Toni Blanes: drums and percussion; Carolina Otero: vocals; Jose Luis Lucas Palaci: trumpet. "The Year That I Grew Old" was recorded and mixed at Estudis Blau by Blai Antoni Vañó. "The Fault That I Feel" and "Sara dice" were recorded by Jesús Sáez at La Terraza Cubierta and mixed by Luis Martínez at Little Canyon Studios. All the songs were mastered by Arturo Vaquero at the Abrigueiro studio in Friol (Lugo, Spain). As in the rest of the DEDICATESSEN collection, the beautiful artwork and sleeve were designed by Jesús Galvañ.
