DEDICATESSEN Vol. 5
Limited Edition 500 copies in white colour vinyl, including a download coupon of this album in digital format (MP3 - 320 kbps).
No need to introduce Jaime and Patricia at this point, being our most veteran band by far. Nevertheless, we are pretty sure that Souvenir y los finales sin fin, their contribution to our series DEDICATESSEN, will cause much of a sensation. Firstly because, true to their ever-changing spirit, this is their first song in Spanish in their twelve-year career. "No es el final", A-side of this white vinyl 7" single, is a true hit which will delight their fans and beyond. In it, Souvenir prove again that they are are the masters of melancholic techno-pop. Secondly, because of the record's dedication itself, an ambiguous message about their own destiny as a band - Souvenir y los finales sin fin ("Souvenir and the neverending ends") is the end of something, maybe the beginning of something different, at least the end of this (another) stage.
Whatever the future brings, this record is further evidence of the fact that no one does synthpop melancholia like Souvenir. We are convinced that in the brilliant "No es el final" they have topped themselves, and this time in their mother tongue. The spirit of eighties-inflected beautiful/sad synthesizers lives on in this new composition by Jaime Cristóbal, with echoes of French Europop diva Mylène Farmer, but also the Pet Shop Boys and Spanish techno-pop stars such as Carlos Berlanga or Javiera Mena. On side B, two gems: first, "Cyclothymique", an unreleased song which didn't make it into "Travelogues" (2012), a double shot of techno and pop in the manner of Hot Chip or LCD Sound System which went down really well at their live shows in the last months. And right at the end, their cover version of "Sand", by Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra, in which they go back to the techno-rock territory of their last single on our Jabalina Love Songs series (featuring their cover of "Funnel of Love"). Psychedelic guitars, booming beats and synth arpeggios on this almost-duet between Patricia and J'aime.
