After three new singles (two sold out their printing instantly, after remaining at the top of the sales lists for several weeks) and five more years, Alejandro Díez’s third album as the front man of COOPER arrives. These new full-length dates with the group are going to become those necessary moments of reflection and inflection in a career that is propelled forward by songs like rockets headed out of this stratosphere. Songs cooked on a slow flame, far from the rules of the industry but close to the passions of the public that is so loyal and inspirational to a pop genius, after over 20 years playing our stages, back then as the front man of LOS FLECHAZOS.
This compilation of songs, now that they’re all together, and with the added bonus of indispensable new songs (“Hyde Park” is amazing, maybe the most direct and uncontestable hit Alejandro has written since COOPER began, “Lisboa” is a delicious psychedelic rara avis within the artist’s discography, “El Sueño” is a marvelous version of an early NACHA POP and “La Edad de La Inocencia” is a new cinephile reference, this time to the Martin Scorsese film, set to a power-pop rhythm) offers the vision of an artist who celebrates compositional maturity, with a sound close to the classics (THE BYRDS, THE HOLLIES, THE ZOMBIES…) as well as to contemporaries (TEENAGE FAN CLUB, VELVET CRUSH, WEEZER…) and who sees his musical career more than ever as a journey, with thousands of marvelous moments still to come, like “El Círculo Polar”, “Canción de Viernes” or “Un Dia de Furia”, to name a few, have been recently. And the only thing that’s certain, as Alex himself explains in the album-liner notes, is that there are still many ports to visit, many places to discover, many spaces to inhabit. And if these are the songs that promise to accompany us in our journey, we can do nothing but spread our wings and go with him to the pop paradises.

Lemon Pop [2008]

Over a year has passed since COOPER has released anything and the last single, “Guardame un Secreto” dazzled fans and press to such an extent that it turned out to be the group’s most successful single to date. Throughout the first week on sale, it went directly to number 2 on the singles charts in Spain and maintained its status for more than twenty consecutive weeks. In Alex’s own words, “Lemon pop is a sincere tribute to the [Lemon Pop] Festival in Murcia, as well as the other festivals which have helped us along the way, including FIB, Contempopranea, etc…besides, lemon pop is also a perfect bittersweet mix, like our songs: upbeat and swift melodies which at times, hide the sad and introspective words. ‘Bittersweet’ is the key word, I believe.” This single is one and only. COOPER is living it up right now, with more encouragement as the days go by and with four songs that demonstrate their four poles of pop, the four poles of COOPER. “El Círculo Polar” starts it off with 100% COOPER flavour, the classic sound of the band, as in “Vertigo” and “Cierra los Ojos,” but it is surprisingly a cover of MYRACLE BRAH. A perfect adaptation of “Getting Over Delusion” which COOPER has made their very own and one which Andy Bopp is absolutely delighted with. “En el Sofa” is beautiful, a song about perfect love, peaceful, gentle, with delicious words about the beloved. With “Ruido,” the crazy guitar comes in with the accelerated powerpop, the rebellious young, shedding off many songs from LOS FLECHAZOS and which culminated in “Rabia”, the first cousin and predecessor to “Ruido.” “Ola de calor” is an atypical song of COOPER, different but catchy, and the first time you hear the track, it converts into an immediate favourite: pop, colourful and psychedelic, fun, fresh and catchy. As if these incredible four songs and the delicious cover were not enough, we wanted to give a special gift to all COOPER fans and that is why we decided to include a fifth track. This track is composed of over an hour of cover songs played live at the infamous COOPER concert in Madrid on January 18, 2008. A full hour with COOPER live performing their favourite songs from various groups, decades and styles.  From GIGOLO AUNTS to BUZZCOCKS, going on to BADFINGER, THE MUFFS, THE HOLLIES, NACHA POP and THE FOUNDATIONS and last, but not least,  LOS FLECHAZOS.

We can find some on this new EP that adds up to COOPER's already brilliant list of small format records. Four songs that follow up from the previous one from the very cover, with Catherine Deneuve starring again, and introducing the band's new drummer, Nacho García (WINNERYS).

"Canción de viernes" opens the EP with the classic COOPER sound, self-referencing their own repertoire as in songs like "Vértigo" or "Nudo en la garganta" (in fact the repetition of words from these songs is absolutely conscious). "Mi diario" is about emotional instability -a secret to keep, hidden from the rest-, in a power pop style. "Steph" is a precious song, poetic and very moving, with a different sound to the band's previous efforts: as if SHAZAM would play a BEATLES song with Evan Dando. If anything. The last song (the last one?), "Flea market", is a comeback to Alex's anglophile roots, a danceable instrumental number lead by Carlo Coupé's marvelous organ. With this guest musician COOPER travel to places where they could meet THE SMALL FACES, JAMES TAYLOR QUARTET or, of course, Alex's previous band LOS FLECHAZOS.

The record opens with the song "El sur", that links to the poetic second movie from the short filmography by Spanish cult director Víctor Erice. Coming after "El sur" we find a mid tempo with guitars that could belong to the best moments by TEENAGE FANCLUB; the song is called "Rainman", referring to the movie starred by Dustin Hoffman in 1988. "Un día de furia", finally, is named after the Spanish translation of "Falling down", the explosive 1992 film starring Michael Douglas, and on it we find -as usual in COOPER's aesthetic universe- other mentions to pop culture as a painting by pop artist Robert Rauschenberg that hangs from the main character's room wall.
As a bonus track, COOPER end this fantastic EP with a cover version of "Where I find my heaven", a guitar pop classic from the 90's by American band GIGOLO AUNTS, which COOPER make their own with taste and skill.

Exclusive CD-single aimed at fans and concert attendants at the "Retrovisor" tour. This record won´t be sold nor available in shops, and it features two songs and a video. The main track on the single is "Seis menos diez" (a cover version of the song "Upside down" by THE MUFFS, adapted into Spanish by Alejandro), and the present is complete with the song "Rabia", already available on the "Retrovisor" album, plus an additional track featuring this last song's videoclip.

"Retrovisor" is a road stop to review COOPER´s trajectory during the last months, before getting back in the lane which is providing pop fans from all over the world with so many good times.
"Retrovisor" is a new COOPER album, although the band has only recorded three new songs; in short sessions, always stuck to their compromise with immediacy and spontaneity. They have been reunited in an album with other songs that have been appearing during 2003 and 2004 in different formats. Twelve songs to be a past viewfinder, a complete retro-spective.
After listening to these twelve bright, energetic, timeless pop songs, we come to a clear conclusion: this release, taken as an album, stands up perfectly without support, as a qualitative step forward from the already consistent "Fonorama", but also benefits from the vigour, the nerve and the audacity of these short and concentrated recording sessions. Small restorative pills of an immediate effect, along with their characteristic riffs and melodies, such as the three brand new songs, previously unreleased: "Munich", "Rabia" (THE BEATLES leaked through the most speedy new wave) and "A Oscuras" (nostalgic and intimate); most songs (some of them remixed) from their two previous singles, "747" and "Oxidado", already out of stock and this way available for their large audience; and a variety of rarities: "Cierra los ojos" (a gift with the 2003 tour ticket and previously unsold), the cheerful "Sin respiración" (previously included in the Modapop" compilation) and a cover of LOS FLECHAZOS’ classic "Quiero regresar", which appeared on the cd gifted with the Kitchenette fanzine, besides being released in a split-single with German band THE CHEEKS.
Besides, this album (which will also be released on a vinyl limited edition, only 600 copies in white vinyl and a luxuriant jacket) includes the video clips of the songs "747", "Cerca del sol" and "Cierra los ojos", as well as pictures and information about the band.
