The Catenary Wires

When You Walk Away

You asked the time

Then you brushed my arm discreetly

And you held my gaze completely

As I said half past nine

And on the night bus

The stories you were telling

If it was a trap, I fell in

Imagining our life

But all the things that felt so good

Contained the seeds of what would feel so wrong

I'm waiting for the day

When you walk away

And for a year

Felt like something had a hold of us

A thousand things left half-discussed

All ideas and ideals

But then the cracks

Started to appear. If I want to

Do something you are not into

It isn’t an attack

Oh, all the things that felt so good

Contained the seeds of what would feel so wrong

I'm waiting for the day

When you walk away, away

When you walk away, away

And you never said you wouldn’t leave me

It's been a while

Books, CDs and art you gave to me

Is long read, listened to and seen

And lying in a pile

Oh I should sell

All of it on eBay, realise

The end of us, the end of lies

The ending of a spell

But all the things that felt so good

Contained the seeds of what would feel so wrong

I'm waiting for the day

When you walk away, away

When you walk away, away

And you never said you wouldn’t leave me
