I Want You Back

Album: Let It Slip [2008]
Author: Liz Hunt - Simon Stone © Elefant Publishing

Once upon a time I thought everything would turn out fine, just like lines in books

Now I see I’m caught, caught up in a tangled web

All the things you said I bought, like a fool I’d shout it loud, “I don’t care what they say” And now it’s clear that all of it was make believe

Now and then I think, now and then I think too much about you in my sleep, about you in my sleep

And when the dreams have all come back and settled down

And the stupid nightmares hang around

With the visions of the one you’re with now

I know I tried to get you out my broken mind

And to leave the past we have behind

But it’s no use wishing now for things like that, I want you back

Well I really truly tried in the way you’d want me to, and never do you harm

I see it couldn’t last cos of what I said to you

And you knew it all along, you couldn’t have just said to me “I don’t care about it”, no you Couldn’t say “Hey girl just leave it all behind”

Well now and then I think, now and then I think too much about you in my sleep, about You in my sleep

And when the dreams have all come back and settled down

And the stupid nightmares hang around

With the visions of the one you’re with now

I know I tried to get you out my broken mind

And to leave the past we have behind

But it’s no use wishing now for things like that, I want you back
