We have an unashamed penchant for HEAVENLY, or any other project related to Amelia Fletcher. We have been supporting the band in Spain and trying to spread our love for them as much as possible. We released some of their records here, and we also organized some Spanish live dates for HEAVENLY: the most notorious one was the band’s appearance in the first edition of Benicassim/FIB Festival in 1995.

In 1995 we released “This Is Heavenly”, a CD compiling songs from deleted singles and from the band’s first albums. The album includes both Melody Maker’s singles of the week “P.U.N.K. Girl” and “Atta Girl”, and served as a perfect introduction to the band in Spain. We also released the Spanish version of the band’s swansong “Operation Heavenly”, plus the single “Space manatee”, featuring non-album cover versions of FLAMIN’ GROOVIES and THE JAM.

The origins of HEAVENLY are found in seminal anorak-punk-pop masters TALULAH GOSH. Its line up included three future HEAVENLY members, and released their records in Stephen Pastel’s label, as well as VASELINES, SHOP ASSISTANTS or BMX BANDITS. At the end of the eighties TALULAH GOSH split and HEAVENLY are born. They will turn out to be one of the freshest, happiest and influential names in nineties indiepop. They band would release most of its stuff in Sarah Records, which would also put out stuff by THE FIELD MICE o St CHRISTOPHER. Albums by HEAVENLY include “Heavenly vs. Satan”, “Le Jardin De Heavenly” or “The Decline And Fall Of Heavenly”, apart from the mentioned above.

In 1997 the band splits due to the death of Matthew, drummer and Amelia’s brother. In 1999 Amelia, Rob, Cathy and Peter come back as MARINE RESEARCH.
